Tanimbar Kei Cultural Village

Tanimbar Kei is an island in the far south west of Kei archipelago. The village is divided into two parts. The oldest part is perched high on the cliff. Here there are several examples of traditional architecture. The lower part of the nestles below by the sea they are connected by the wooden staircase almost 15 meter high. Magnificent beaches and spectacular scenery make Tanimbar Kei an unforgettable place to visit. Most of the villagers are farmers and fishermen. Coconut is the main cash crop. Villagers in Tanimbar Kei retain a strong belief in traditional gods and ancestors, known as Wadar and Mitu. Words from ancient ritual language are still used in various ceremonies. One of these is known as Tate’e, in which villagers ask for protection, and for a successful harvest from land and sea.
